I started this blog in an effort to chronicle my efforts in my job search, and I soon realized it was more than just about my job search. I wanted to write about the networking aspect of it, the people I’d met, and things I’d learned in the process, and the ties to social media, which is where and how I met some very amazing, and helpful people.
This form of social media has afforded me opportunities and connections I never even thought of before. My first foray into social media was on Twitter.com. I’d heard about it from friends, but wasn’t sure about it. I’d had profiles on myspace.com and some older sites, but the up and coming sites I’d been hearing more and more about were LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook.
I initially started this blog on wordpress.com at the start of February, but within two weeks I also realized that I wanted more control over certain aspects of the site. So on the weekend of 2/14/09 I downloaded my posts from wordpress.com, purchased the domain name, and a hosting account, installed Wordpress, uploaded my posts, and began to tweak the site to my liking.
I may change the layout stiil, but I’m happy with it for now. I began telling people about it on Monday 2/16/09 and now direct everyone to this site. My old layout and blog posts are still on martinpiraino.wordpress.com but with promoting this new site, hopefully soon all traffic will be directed here.
